Things to See in Week 10: Asynchronous Book Inquiry Group Meeting

Artefact: Slide 1, The Courage to Teach: Exploring the Inner Landscape of a Teacher's Life

This week our Book Groups were expected to use our class time to meet and organize our work for presentation. Because the others were working, and before the meeting, I found a suitable, free template on SlidesGo and created an outline for our work. I attempted to organize it in a way that would be useful for the others.

In the end, they used the template and many of the slides but decided to go with a different way of presenting that better fit with the way we could look at the book through an Equity lens. I found this to be somewhat disturbing because before I realized the slant of the presentation, our group was formed with all Caucasian members. I normally would invite someone who seemed to not be included in a group but didn’t have the chance. In the end, after many meetings, I found that race aside, we were quite a diverse bunch even though the others didn’t want to share the details in a class.

I am looking forward to reading the other book options. I have acquired them all.

The other books are:

Pedagogy of the Oppressed

Teaching to Transgress

The Beautiful Risk of Education
